Individual Psychotherapy

We do an in depth evaluation of each client to understand what brings them into therapy. This involves exploring many areas of a person’s life including: reasons for seeking treatment,  family of origin and life experiences up to the present. This process can take three to four sessions during which the clinician and the client will develop a plan on how to work with their issues as they understand them.  If additional services are needed, such as medication or a higher level of treatment, we will make recommendations and referrals to the appropriate services.

People often play out patterns from their family of origin or other previous experiences that no longer serve them well in their personal and/or professional life. Being stuck in these patterns can lead to depression and anxiety. Individual psychotherapy involves the therapist and client exploring how and why these patterns developed and identifying more effective alternatives.  This leads  to experimentation with new behaviors and attitudes to make constructive changes. This process frees people to live their lives in more authentic ways. This can be done in short-term counseling for specific issues or long-term psychotherapy for more in-depth knowledge and growth.
